NEWS:
The extraordinary
has joined The Accidentals!
| |
Check out Cat's website (click on her name above) to read about her acclaimed solo CDs, her incredible musical career, then come help us welcome her to the group at our March 17th show!
Here's what the Washington Post said about her in a review of Cat's latest CD, "Sentimental Streak":
Talk about pedigree. Catherine Russell's father, pianist Luis Russell,
worked with Louis Armstrong and King Oliver back during the Depression.
Russell's mother, Carline Ray, played bass with jazz trumpeter
Doc Cheatham and took her daughter to shows by luminaries ranging from
Betty Carter to Thelonious Monk. All of which is to say that while the likes
of Ella Fitzgerald and Bessie Smith might have recorded the classic versions
of the songs on this album, Russell has earned the right to sing them too.

Hear The Accidentals on the new EVOC CD "Olde School"

The Accidentals have contributed some rather odd vocals to a wonderful, newly released GRAMMY-NOMINATED CD by the acclaimed East Village Opera Company (EVOC)!
don't wait - check it out and get your copy now at : "OLDE SCHOOL"
The Accidentals had the great good fortune to work for many years with two members of EVOC (Peter Kiesewalter, musical arranger and a solo instrumentalist, and Ann-Marie Milazzo, soloist) in NYC's "The Downtown Messiah." Our own Margaret Dorn was also a soloist and choir director in the show.
Recently, we were invited to provide some vocals for the new EVOC CD. Peter says:
"The Accidentals are a freakily flexible vocal ensemble. You need doo-wop harmonies? Harmonically adventurous smooth as Kahlua singing? A classical chorus that will sight-read anything you throw at them? Simple oohs and aahs? Roof raising god fearing testimonial? Demonic monks? How about an all boys choir chanting in latin? All this and more from one group." --Peter Kiesewalter, 2008
